A Pumpkin & Hydrangea Centerpiece for Cozy Autumn Gatherings
Using Pumpkins, Spanish Moss, and Garden Blooms
There’s nothing quite like autumn’s abundance to inspire a table. Crisp evenings, glowing candles, and the colors of the harvest make this season one of the coziest for gathering. For this fall centerpiece, I combined mini pumpkins, hydrangeas from my yard, and a few simple touches to create a look that’s both abundant and effortless—perfect for everyday suppers or a special celebration.
Follow along to see how easy it is to bring the beauty of fall indoors with this layered pumpkin and hydrangea centerpiece.
Materials You’ll Need
- A long wooden dough bowl (or basket)
- Spanish moss (or preserved moss)
- Mini pumpkins (mix of white, orange, and striped)
- Dried hydrangeas (fresh or faux can work too)
- Marigolds or other small seasonal blooms
- Torn muslin strips + ribbon (optional)
- Candles (for added glow)
Step 1: Create the Base
Start by filling the bottom of your dough bowl with Spanish moss. This soft layer gives pumpkins a cozy place to rest and adds texture and fullness. Let it spill just slightly over the edges for a natural, gathered feel.
Step 2: Layer in Pumpkins
Arrange your mini pumpkins on top of the moss. Mix whites, oranges, and striped varieties for contrast. Stagger sizes and colors to keep the look full but relaxed.
Step 3: Add Hydrangeas
Tuck clusters of dried hydrangeas in and around the pumpkins. Their faded greens and blush tones soften the bolder orange pumpkins and add a romantic, seasonal texture.
Step 4: Sprinkle in Seasonal Blooms
For little bursts of color, add marigolds or other seasonal flowers. These pops of gold and rust brighten the arrangement and tie it beautifully to the season.
Step 5: Personalize with Ribbon Details
Tear muslin into strips and hand-letter simple words like thankful or blessed. Tie them onto pumpkin stems with ribbon for a personal, homespun touch.
Step 6: Finish with Glow
Nestle a few candles into the arrangement or place them nearby to bring the whole look to life. The glow of candlelight against pumpkins and flowers feels warm and welcoming.
And there you have it—a centerpiece that captures the magic of fall in the simplest of ways. Because at the heart of every table is more than pumpkins and flowers—it’s the joy of gathering, the warmth of candlelight, and the memories made around it. With
just a few pumpkins, garden blooms, and thoughtful details, you can create a table that feels abundant, inviting, and ready to welcome the season. However you celebrate, may your table be filled with beauty and the people you love most.
